OBJECTIVES/PURPOSE

The Head of U.S. Biolife Operations is an inspiring leader, advancing people engagement and business performance through high quality and well aligned strategies. The successful Incumbent is responsible for the operations and results of more than 230 U.S. plasma centers.

Through a core group of leadership reports, the position manages more than $900M+ in operating costs and 10,000+ employees across BioLife's U.S. footprint.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Collaboratively partnering with Strategy team to build strategic direction for Biolife U.S. Operations short and long-term objectives to include providing input on overall performance targets.
  • Performance Delivery: Drive operations policy/strategy and execute with excellence to meet all U.S. Operations KPI’s and achieve best in class processes within Operations. Work closely with the Forecasting/Pricing & Workforce Optimization to ensure optimal capacity utilization.
  • Drive an exceptional donor experience in the centers through partnership with the Customer Excellence team.
  • Work collaboratively with Business Excellence to drive exceptional results within the network ensuring robust performance across all centers.
  • Ensure that quality and safety standards are met/exceeded.
  • Drive talent allocation and development to support a strong bench while fostering a positive culture in the workplace.
  • Responsible for the successful launch and ramping of new centers.
  • Accountable for providing input/implications to broader Takeda operations strategy.
  • Engageandcollaboratewithsupport departments to support operational goals.

Position reports to the Global Head of Biolife

ACCOUNTABILITIES

This position will oversee the team that is responsible for U.S. centers and has 5-7 direct reports. The full field operations organization consists of approximately 10,000+ employees.

Strategic Direction

  • Provide input to and understand holistic plasma sourcing strategy; translate to strategy for network of Biolife centers and laboratories.
  • Continuously evaluate network of plasma centers and identify opportunities to optimize volume and cost performance across the network (priorities for future growth, rationalization)
  • Defines short and long-term operational priorities across center operations, cost reduction, quality improvement, training/staff development, marketing/donor experience
  • Provide input on overall financial and operating performance targets- volume, cost, capital allocation
  • Allocate budget and resources across network of centers and laboratories
  • Approve center level annual production forecasts and center budget activities (as escalated by Regional Leads)

Performance Delivery

  • Continuously make decisions the drive the most value for the business
  • Responsible for execution of ongoing cost reduction and volume optimization priorities
  • Conduct operating performance reviews to assess underlying business drivers and guide direct reports in action planning
  • Continuously improve performance management processes and systems
  • Collaborate with support functions to ensure successful execution of strategic direction, policies, and procedures. Oversee coordination of cross-functional work teams to increase overall efficiency of the business.

Quality and Safety Standards (with Quality)

  • Maintains strong understanding of QA, Medical Affairs and Regulatory and FDA requirements
  • Maintains a strong understanding of Quality Operations and provides input and recommendation pertaining to the implementation of new changes impacting operations

Talent Development (with HR)

  • Drive talent allocation and development to be aligned with sources of value in the business
  • As needed, refine organizational structure, roles and responsibilities for field operations positions to support performance delivery
  • Motivate and Inspire future leaders through supporting targeted development strategies
  • Assess skills of key talent and develop desired talent pipeline (promotions, retention, attrition)
  • Provide input to compensation guidelines and incentives

Complexity and Problem Solving

Accountable to: Hema Tallman, Global Head of Biolife, Plasma-Derived Therapies.

Internal contacts: Advises, consults and coordinates with: Head of Biolife Marketing, Supplier Management, Business Support, Finance, Engineering, Quality, Medical Affairs, Human Resources, Biolife Compliance, Business Operations and the Biolife Operational Excellence Lead

  • Provides input/influences the development of initiatives across various cross functions to support the Biolife US strategy. Coordinates the deployment across the network
  • Influences decisions surrounding new center development, talent and development programs, supplier strategies, Cl programs, compliance, facility maintenance, and marketing programs
  • Consults, advises and aligns in the development of labor forecasting and tools
  • Partner with Head of Supplier Management to sponsor the Supplier strategies initiative
  • Provides the Finance team with inputs to forecasting and budgeting of U.S. volume and cost
  • Provides SME support via the Regionals and Head of Center Operations support towards project teams across Biolife.
  • Coordinates and advices OE in driving Cl improvement across the network.
  • Coordinates with Head of PDT (Plasma Derived Therapies) Communications and Head of PDT IT

External contacts: Vendors Fresenius Kabi, Haemonetics, and Terumo

  • Participate in quarterly business reviews to provide and accept input and drive solutions with cross-functional partners
  • Partner with vendors in providing support and input for the development of future technology including piloting of new devices, materials and software

EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor's degree required, MBA preferred
  • Large multi-unit retail, health or related industry experience highly preferred
  • 10+ years consumer-facing multi-site management experience; prior experience with healthcare providers or services delivered in clinical settings is a plus (quality-driven, government regulated operations)
  • Additional experience in project management, supply chain operating systems, and financial management skills necessary

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Ability to travel 35-50% without restriction.

U.S. Base Salary Range:

252,000.00 - 396,000.00

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salaryoffered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/or long-term incentives. U.S.based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S.based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
