3 Reasons a Former Educator Chose a Career With BioLife
LaTanya Johnson
Operations Manager Trainee
Largo, Florida
Employee Since 2020
LaTanya started her career in education, teaching inner city students, coaching cheerleading, and serving as an advisor for the National Honors Society. A natural leader, LaTanya was encouraged by her principal and mentor to pursue a master’s degree in educational leadership, and she later became an assistant principal.
LaTanya spent 16 years working in education before deciding she wanted a career change. Inspired by the care her grandmother received in a rehabilitative facility, and her desire to continue making a difference in the lives of others, LaTanya pursued a second master’s degree in healthcare administration. After several years of pursuing different paths within healthcare, LaTanya eventually found her calling working for BioLife.
Find out why LaTanya’s background in education makes for an exciting career as an Operations Manager Trainee (OMT) at BioLife.
Always Learning
As a former educator, LaTanya has always been passionate about learning, and working at BioLife makes her feel like she’s back in school. In her role, LaTanya travels to different BioLife facilities across the country to learn all the ins and outs of operating a plasma center. She says, “I used to run a family medical practice, but running a plasma center is so much more. It’s a lot, but there’s always something you can be learning, which is what motivates me every day.”
Companywide Support
No matter where in the country LaTanya has traveled, she has always received the support she’s needed from a BioLife team member. “Being in this program, I’ve been able to network, get to know people across the company, and form solid connections that I can tap into any time I need help,” LaTanya says. “Even if I don’t know the right answer, I know the right person to call.”
In addition to the support LaTanya receives from team members, she also appreciates how BioLife’s benefits support her health and wellbeing. “The best benefit I receive from BioLife is healthcare. I’ve never had issues switching doctors.”
Room to Grow
LaTanya is energized by BioLife’s culture of empowerment, and their focus on developing employees. “I like that they are a company that continues to build you up,” says LaTanya. “They invest in you. If they see you are someone who will want to stay with the company and who wants to grow, they won’t let you stay in one position for long.”
The goal of the operations manager trainee program is to develop employees to be ready to take on an assistant manager role within the plasma center network. Latanya feels fortunate to have recently accepted an assistant manager role with the Largo FL location, and her hope is to continue to grow with the organization. Her ultimate goal is to be a regional manager, where she can share ideas with company leaders, and help them keep employees at BioLife united. “I’m very grateful for my career at BioLife, I plan on making this my forever. There’s so much potential, I shouldn’t have to go anywhere else.”
