Four Ways BioLife Supports Your Career
Shaliyah R.
Quality Manager Representative
Universal City, Texas
Employee Since 2017
“How can you grow with us?” That is the question Shaliyah, an emerging leader at BioLife, says her teams often ask. This mentality is a reflection of the culture at BioLife.
To learn more about career development at BioLife, Shaliyah shares her thoughts on four ways the company supports her.
1. Inspiring Leaders
For Shaliyah, people are the best resource at BioLife. Her managers invest in her by ensuring she is able to participate in a full year of quality management training. Regional managers and group managers know her by name, which makes her feel like a valued part of the team. This inspires her to want to continue to grow with the company. She takes pride in her leaders acknowledging the many ways she’s stretched herself professionally and she aspires to keep developing as a leader within the company.
2. Trusted Teammates
Being surrounded by a team of hardworking, reliable, and welcoming colleagues creates an environment that encourages development, too. “As soon as you walk in, you feel so welcome. Even if you don’t know anyone, you feel like you belong.” The encouragement to grow comes from within. “We challenge one another to help each other grow,” Shaliyah explains.
When she was a supervisor, she coached nine mentees who were new in their roles but wanted to pursue opportunities in the future. Shaliyah worked with and encouraged them to apply for new roles. Since then, three have advanced into center supervisor positions and one has become a training supervisor.
3. Online and In-Person Courses
BioLife also provides rigorous training on various topics. Courses are available online or in-person at the centers and at BioLife University, a learning hub in Appleton, Wisconsin. As a Quality Manager Trainee, she enjoys the training curriculum. “My favorite course was on multigenerational leadership. We discussed generational differences and how to adjust our leadership styles for each one.”
4. Company Growth
BioLife’s continued growth brings opportunities for employees, like Shaliyah, to move into different roles and learn new things. As more centers open, new positions provide opportunities for current employees and candidates, too. When asked about what she loves most about her job, Shaliyah says, “Growth. There are so many ways to grow, change, and challenge yourself.”
In just a few years with the company, Shaliyah has changed positions three times. “People from all walks of life are working here at BioLife. It’s a place where you can come in and learn the skills to work in healthcare.” This creates a welcoming environment where growth opportunities are at one’s fingertips.
